Episode Summary |
Michael Bluth has worked for his father, George Bluth, for ten years in Orange County, California. Michael is hoping to be made a partner of the Bluth Company on the day of his father's retirement.
When his father is arrested during his retirement party, Michael decides once and for all that it is time to leave the family and move on with his life.
The rest of the Bluth family, Lucille, his mother, Gob, his older brother, Lindsay, his twin sister, Tobias, his brother-in-law, and Buster, his younger brother, all discover that they desperately need Michael to return and take over the family business.
Meanwhile, Michael is almost immediately offered a job with a rival housing company. He and his son, George Michael, were on their way to Phoenix when the rest of his family stages an intervention--or imposition--in protest to Michael's departure.
Sick of their greediness and selfishness, Michael explains that he is still moving to Phoenix. In a last desperate attempt, the family convinces Michael to at least visit his father in jail.
Michael officially resigns his position as Manager at the Bluth Company while visiting his father. He demands to know why he was not made president of the company. Even though Michael learns that his father intention's were good, George's confession does not convince him to stay in California.
After seeing his son's reluctance to leave his family for good, Michael finally decides to salvage what is left of the family and to take over as the head of the Bluth Company. |

George: You'd be an accomplice. No, it had to be your mom. [whispering] They cannot arrest a husband and wife for the same crime. [winks]
Michael: Yeah, I don't think that that's true, Dad.
George: Really? I got the worse (bleep)ing attorneys.
|
|
Michael: Well I'm sorry, it's just, it's too late. I'm moving to Phoenix. I got a job.
[The rest of the family is speechless]
Michael: It's something you apply for, and they pay you to ah--Nevermind, I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Michael: What comes before anything? What have we always said is the most important thing?
George Michael: Breakfast.
Michael: Family.
Geroge Michael: Family, right. I thought you meant of the things you eat.

|
Michael: So, this is the magic trick, huh?
Gob: Illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money.
[Michael points to the young children overhearing their conversation.]
Gob: Or candy!

|
Lucille: Everything they do is so dramatic and flamboyant it just makes me want to... set myself on fire!
